Overall, the equity indices defied gravity for the tenth straight session as a fag-end rally in banking and financial counters helped offset profit-booking in IT stocks. The 30-share BSE Sensex opened on a weak note but gained ground in the last hour of trade to finish at 40,794.74, up 169.23 points or 0.42 per cent. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty rose 36.55 points or 0.31 per cent to 11,971.05.

>> Harsha Rajeshbhai Jhaveri and Overskud Multi Asset Management purchased 4,000 and 2,000 shares of Transpact respectively at an average price of Rs 135, while Pratik Paresh Shah HUF sold 6,000 shares at the same price.
>> Optimus Finance sold 1.16 lakh shares of Vaksons Automobiles at an average price of Rs 28.80, while Sajankumar Rameshwarlal Bajaj bought a similar number of shares at the same price.
